Star Indian all-rounder Shivam Dube, who played in all eight matches of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 for the Rohit Sharma-led side earlier this year, gave a cheeky reply when he was asked to pick his favourite captain between MS Dhoni and Rohit. Dube has played both under Dhoni and Rohit’s leadership. He made his international debut for India under Rohit’s leadership in November 2019 and won U-19 World Cup earlier this year, whereas he won the IPL title under Dhoni’s captaincy in 2023.
The 31-year-old recently appeared on The Kapil Sharma Show, where he was asked to pick one between the two T20 World Cup-winning skippers. As it was quite tricky for him to pick one, Dube said, “When I am playing for Chennai, MS Dhoni is the best; when I am playing for India, Rohit Sharma is the best.”
Dube’s smart response left everyone in splits. Rohit also looked impressed with the intelligent reply. The India captain asked Dube if he had prepared such kinds of answers before coming to the talk show.

Apart from Dube and Rohit, Suryakumar Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, and Axar Patel also appeared in the show, which aired on Saturday.
During the show, Rohit opened up about the thrilling T20 World Cup 2024 final played in Barbados on June 29, where India defeated South Africa by seven runs. The match saw a dramatic turnaround in the dying moments after Heinrich Klaasen’s blistering fifty put the Proteas in front. The Men in Blue displayed tremendous fighting spirit to overcome the pressure.
Reminiscing about the nail-biting finish, Rohit said, “Anything could have happened on that wicket. When we were batting, we lost wickets, then made a partnership, and later lost wickets again. We expected the same could happen to them as their batting line-up ended at the seventh position. We had to take a wicket at any cost since Klaasen and Miller were playing.”
After the historic triumph, Rohit announced his retirement from T20Is. Suryakumar was subsequently named India’s new captain in the shortest format. Surya began his leadership tenure with a series victory over Sri Lanka in July 2024. They continued their dominance in the opening T20I against Bangladesh and won the contest by seven wickets.
