Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer Washington Sundar was awestruck with MS Dhoni’s memorable cameo against the Mumbai Indians yesterday. The former Chennai Super Kings skipper made a dazzling appearance at the Wankhede Stadium, in Mumbai smashing 20 runs in the final four balls of the first innings. His knock included three consecutive sixes that helped the reigning champions breach the 200-run mark. Amazed by the 42-year-old’s consistency at the top level, the Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer shared a post on Instagram, urging Dhoni to continue playing cricket in the upcoming years. Adding the Singam Ondru song to his post, Sundar wrote, “Thala Thala dhaan! Few more years, please.”
MS Dhoni came down to bat yesterday after Daryl Mitchell was dismissed on the second ball of the final over bowled by Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya. The New Zealand batter had mistimed his shot towards long-on that was taken by Mohammad Nabi. Next, the crowd roared as Dhoni made his way onto the pitch, looking to face Pandya. Mumbai Indians’ newly appointed skipper dished out a length ball to welcome Thala who stood and clobbered the delivery over long-off.
Hardik Pandya tried to retaliate but sent another length ball down the pitch which MS Dhoni deposited over long-on. A change in fielding placements was made as Tim David ran in from long-off. This slowed down the game a little while giving Dhoni a little breathing room. Pandya next tried to fire a yorker which ended up being a low full-toss ball that the World Cup-winning captain flicked over the backward square leg for another six.
