A team of Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) visited Bengaluru on Tuesday to discuss work for India’s first interstate metro line between Bommasandra and Tamil Nadu’s Hosur, reported MoneyControl.
The said line will include 12 stations and cover a total length of 23 Km. The metro line, originally intended to be 20.5 kilometers long, would stretch for an additional 2.5 km in Tamil Nadu to accommodate the terminus station on the outskirts of Hosur.
The recent meeting focused on the feasibility of executing the MRTS line, which will be 23 km long, including about 11 km in Tamil Nadu and 12 km in Karnataka, with 12 metro stations and a depot planned along the route, as per a CMRL statement.
To discuss the extension of the line, CMRL Managing Director MA Siddique met with Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) Managing Director M Maheshwar Rao at the BMRCL office. According to the news portal, officials from CMRL, BMRCL and consultants (Balaji Railroad Systems Private Limited JV (BARSYL) and Habog Consultants Private Limited) were also present during the meeting.
According to Hindustan Times, the CMRL officials said in a statement, “CMRL is currently preparing a Detailed Feasibility Study Report (DFR) for the extension of the MRTS line from Bommasandra (Bengaluru) to Hosur via Attibele, as instructed by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and approved by the Tamil Nadu government. This DFR is in advanced stages of completion.”
Following the meetings, the CMRL team and the consultants travelled to Hosur to meet with Krishnagiri collector KM Sarayu and Hosur Municipal Corporation Commissioner HS Srikanth. Some of the stations proposed in this route include Hosur Bus Terminus, SIPCOT Industrial Park, Attibele, Attibele Industrial Area, Narayana Hospital and Bommasandra.
Earlier, the Basavaraj Bommai-led government authorised a proposal to extend the RV Road – Bommasandra Metro line to Hosur City, as part of Namma Metro’s Phase 2 project. But to begin the construction work, the state government’s clearance was not enough, therefore authorities in Karnataka teamed up with the Tamil Nadu government for their support.
Bengaluru Metro’s Yellow Line, which connects Bommasandra to RV Road, is expected to be operational by December 2024.
