All eyes will be on the Royal Rumble 2024, WWE’s first premier live event of the year. And. one of the most anticipated matches is for Kevin Owens versus the social media celebrity, professional boxer, and now WWE’s United States Champion Logan Paul.
However, there have been doubts regarding Owens’ ability to compete or whether he has been cleared for the match after picking up an injury to his arm during the tournament which decided who would be the number one contender.
In an exclusive interaction with News18 Sports, Kevin Owens spoke regarding his upcoming match against Logan Paul, the concerns regarding his injury, his thoughts on the champion and whether he would be competing in the marquee Royal Rumble fixture as well.
You have injured your arm and you were in a cast during your show at Smackdown. There have been concerns on whether you will be able to compete through your injury. Any comments?
KO: WWE kind of trusts us to know our limits and they have been concerned about my hand. Obviously everybody understands the opportunity that is in front of me, the importance of the Royal Rumble and how excited our audience is to see this match. So, the doctors have given me their blessings to go ahead with the match and I am not going to let it stop me (from) trying to make (it to) the Royal Rumble.
Logan had attacked you on Smackdown, what was going through your mind when all of that went down?
KO: I mean obviously cheap shots like that are not something anybody loves to receive so it has fueled me that’s for sure some added motivation there.
One thing to add on to this, you had shown some respect to Logan saying that he had put in the work and tried to be better that everyone else would have thought. Does any of that change after the incident and ahead of the match?
KO: No, I wouldn’t have expected anything different from him in terms of the kind of person he seems to be. But he has definitely worked very hard to be the best he can be in the ring and that is something that deserves a level of respect. But again, it’s not going to stop me from doing everything I can to beat the hell out of him.
There are many others like you, who have put in years of their lives for this business. Do you see someone like Logan Paul as less of an opponent since he is very young in this industry?
KO: No, I am approaching this the way I would any other match. He has less experience for sure but sometimes since he is not from this industry he thinks outside the box. He doesn’t have the same mentality as we do. Sometimes that can be very beneficial for you. I am fully aware that he is a very capable athlete and he is a trained boxer. He is no slouch.
Physically, how big of a challenge is it going to be since you will be competing in the US title match and then at the Royal Rumble as well?
KO: I am not sure if I am going to be in the Royal Rumble match. That has not been decided. Right now, I am just focusing on my match with Logan and not thinking about the Royal Rumble.
