A high school student in the US has been charged after allegedly slapping his female teacher inside the classroom earlier this week. The video of the assault has been widely circulated on social media.
The incident happened at Parkland High School in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. According to the police, the male student, identified only as a minor, has been charged with two counts of misdemeanour assault on a government official and one count of communicating threats, as per New York Post report.
In the viral video, the teen student — dressed in a grey hoodie and grey pants — can be seen verbally abusing the teacher and subsequently slapping her violently. However, to much shock, the educator appeared unfazed by the assault.
“Do you think that affected me anyway,” the unidentified teacher calmly responded, sitting back in her chair with her legs crossed.
Even after the first blow, the teacher remained composed in the classroom. However, the student not demanded, “Want me to hit you again?”
“I don’t want it,” the teacher replied before being struck again, this time from the right side, knocking the glasses off her face.
“The f–k’s wrong with you, what you gonna do, still sit in that chair ’cause you a b***h. Ain’t nobody even coming, you got slapped,” said the student, hurling insults at the teacher. “B***h go back to teaching,” he added.
The video, captured by one of the students, also shows the atmosphere inside the classroom as other students can be heard laughing over the teacher being slapped amid the assault.
The region’s school district superintendent issued a statement condemning the student’s behavior, as reported by WXII.
“This behavior will not be tolerated. At no time is it acceptable for students to put their hands on a teacher in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools,” said Tricia McManus, Superintendent at Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools.
She added, “My focus now is on making sure that our teacher is taken care of and has the support needed to navigate through the lasting effects of this incident.”
