Can You Recognise Young Actors In This Picture From An Iconic Shekhar Kapur Film?
Recently, Shekhar Kapur shared a picture from the sets of Masoom. The photo has the leading pair along with Shekhar Kapur and three child actors who had pivotal roles in the film.

Shekhar Kapur is widely considered one of the most acclaimed filmmakers in the country having made iconic films like Mr India and Bandit Queen. He went international in a big way after he was given the opportunity to direct the British film Elizabeth, a biopic of Queen Elizabeth I of England, starring Cate Blanchett in the lead. Shekhar Kapur is also one of the few directors who achieved widespread critical acclaim right with his first film, Masoom. The movie explored the bold topic of a child born out of wedlock and how a man struggles to make his illegitimate son find acceptance from his wife.

The film was both a commercial and critical success, earning a lot of praise for its story, direction and the performances of the leads played by Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi. After 40 decades since the release of Masoom, Shekhar Kapur recently announced a sequel to the film titled Masoom: The New Generation.

Recently, the director went into nostalgia mode and shared a picture from the sets of Masoom on social media. The picture has the leading pair along with Shekhar Kapur and three child actors who had pivotal roles in the film.

Two of these child actors went on to become leading actors in their childhood. While one was just moderately successful, the other went on to become a largely successful and critically acclaimed leading actress in the 90s and early 2000s. Can you identify them from the picture?

In case you have not, the boy in the picture is Jugal Hansraj who is best known as the college-going lover in the Shah Rukh Khan film Mohabbatein and the older girl in the picture is none other than versatile actress Urmila Matondkar. Jugal Hansraj, who was 11 years old during Masoom, played Naseeruddin’s illegitimate child while a 9-year-old Urmila Matondkar played Naseeruddin and Shabana Azmi’s older daughter.

In the caption along with the post, Shekhar Kapur said that in spite of having no experience in filmmaking or film studies, he was able to make Masoom because of the belief the actors, the producers and the crew had in him.
