Pakistani Army Chief Sacks 12 Officers For Corruption
The sackings come just days after General Sharif called for “across-the-board accountability” to root out corruption from the country

Pakistani Army Chief General Raheel Sharif sacked 12 senior officers on charges of corruption on Thursday. The unprecedented move saw Sharif cracking whip on one major general, five brigadiers, three colonels and three others, according to DawnNews.

The sackings come just days after General Sharif called for “across-the-board accountability” to root out corruption from the country adding that the war against terror cannot be won unless "the menace of corruption is uprooted".

"Pakistan’s Armed Forces will fully support every meaningful effort in that direction which would ensure a better future for our next generations." Dawn.com quoted Sharif as saying.

Interestingly, the Pakistani Army Chief's remark comes in the backdrop of country's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family members' being named in the Panama Paper leaks that led to widespread furore.
