The drama surrounding Pakistan Cricket just does not stop at the current players. Even former captains are involved in their fair share of drama and one such instance resurfaced with a video coming on social media regarding Shahid Afridi’s allegedly conspiring against the then captain Younis Khan despite praising his leadership in Pakistan’s 2009 T20 World Cup winning campaign.

A fan had shared a clip from a news segment by ARY News, where Younis Khan who was a renowned batter and captain for Pakistan cricket alleged that his former teammate could have been conspiring against him since Afridi was not the captain of the side.
Coming back to the present, Afridi had recently posted on X where he revealed that during Pakistan’s 2009 T20WC campaign, there was unrest within the team but the leadership of Younis Khan was what helped bring the team together and take them to the title.
Even in 2009, the team was unhappy and a bit disjointed after some early defeats. It was Younis Khan’s leadership that brought everyone together as we created history! Good leadership can turn around the team in any situation! https://t.co/PStUS9XztC— Shahid Afridi (@SAfridiOfficial) June 18, 2024
Similarly, in the current squad, there have been suggestions that many might not be happy with the captaincy of Babar Azam considering Pakistan’s premature exit from the T20 World Cup 2024. The side was unable to get past the group stages after suffering losses to India and co-hosts, United States of America.

Despite the returns of veterans like Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim who reversed their international retirements, it was not enough as the Pakistan side fell well short of the mark that was expected of the runners-up in the previous edition.
Shahid Afridi used the Holy Quran to take an oath against Younis Khan and forced teammates to do the same. Now he’s acting like a saint on Twitter and social media.. To add further fuel to the fire, the former cricketers did not hold back on the criticism of the side with few asking Babar Azam to be sacked from his role as the captain once again. He ended his first stint as the skipper after a disastrous ODI World Cup 2023 and was brought back after the T20I series loss against New Zealand prior to the T20 World Cup 2024.
