As Valentine’s Week is going on, lovebirds are doing everything to make their partners happy, yet the season can be challenging for those who recently broke up or haven’t found love in years. Offering a quirky remedy, a British car company called Scrap Car Comparison, recently introduced the ‘Scrap Your Ex’ initiative, which provides a unique opportunity to move on from your former partner. This program encourages individuals to bid farewell to past relationships by naming a car destined for the scrapyard after their past partners. The process is simple, as interested individuals can fill out a form on the company website, with details including the ex’s first name and an explanation for why they desire to see that person’s name on a scrapped car.
As per the company website, “This year, we wanted to put the vehicles heading to the scrap heap to particularly good use. What better way to let go of the past and indulge in some proper ‘car-tharsis’ by naming an old banger about to hit the scrap heap after your ex-partner and waving their namesake car out of your life for good? The lucky lovers who do get the opportunity to scrap their ex, will receive photographic evidence of the deed once it has happened, providing the ultimate heartbreak healer.”
Scrap Car Comparison often collaborates with many yards in England. As Valentine’s Day is approaching, they decided to turn the act of scrapping abandoned cars into something positive, like putting an end to failed personal relationships. If you want to join, you need to submit your entry by Wednesday, February 14. The initiative is available to anyone around the world, but there’s a limited number of vehicles available for scrapping and the company will randomly select participants for this unique Valentine’s program.
Interestingly, besides the car scrapping company, the San Antonio Zoo in Texas has also introduced a similar initiative. As per the zoo’s website, individuals have the opportunity to name a veggie, cockroaches or rats after their exes and the zoo will feed them to the resident animals. The Cry me a cockroach fundraiser is an annual program at the zoo that allows visitors to engage in this quirky experience.

While the Scrap Your Ex initiative is free, the Texas Zoo is charging participants for their Cry me a cockroach fundraiser. The prices are $5 for a veggie, $10 for a cockroach or a rodent for $25. However, the funds collected through this initiative will be utilised for the zoo’s activities.
