SS Rajamouli Holding Test Shoots for Mahesh Babu Film, Confirms MM Kreem: 'Story Is Being Locked' | Exclusive
MM Kreems reveals when he'll begin composing the music for SS Rajamouli-Mahesh Babu film. He also says how he hasn't let the Oscar win change his work process.

All eyes are set on SS Rajamouli’s upcoming directorial after the blockbuster and universally loved RRR starring Ram Charan and Jr NTR! Being referred to as SSMB29, this is the first time that the director and Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu has come together for a film. As per Rajamouli, it’s a globe-trotting adventure film in the space of Indiana Jones and Dan Brown novels. And once again, Oscar winning music composer MM Kreem has come on-board to compose music for this magnum opus.

In an exclusive conversation with News18 Showsha, Kreem shares an exciting update on the film and reveals that the story has just been finished being written. “I haven’t started working on it yet because the story is just being locked this week. Some test shoots are going on,” he tells us. And he’s currently gearing up to begin his work on the film that’s tentatively titled Maharaja next month. “In July-August, I’ll start my work of composing music for the film,” he informs.

Last year, the veteran musician won the Oscar for Best Original Song and the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song for Naatu Naatu from RRR and created history. One would imagine that it would lead to filmmakers lining up outside his door to help give them another chartbuster like Naatu Naatu but Kreem says that it was a ‘unique’ song and creating another Naatu Naatu won’t be possible.

He says, “Nobody has told me to make a song like Naatu Naatu for their films so far. Naatu Naatu was unique to RRR. It was situational song. It wasn’t just a song but also like a story within the film. So, unless other filmmakers come up with something like that, they cannot ask me to make one more Naatu Naatu like the way they usually ask when it comes to an item song.”

But has there been any change in his life or career post winning at the 95th Academy Awards? “Life hasn’t changed post Oscars win. Imagine this situation… I go to a mall and ask for a Dairy Milk chocolate and a packet of Maggi noodles. I pick them up and when I walk away, they ask me for money. And I say, ‘I’ve won an Oscar, so you can’t ask me to pay.’ So, you see, winning an Oscar doesn’t make any difference. I still have to pay for what I buy,” says the composer with a laugh, whose next is Neeraj Pandey’s musical love story Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha starring Ajay Devgn and Tabu.

Kreem, who has also worked with Rajamouli on the Baahubali series, Eega and Magadheera, among others, further points out that he hasn’t let it come in the way of his personal and professional relationships. “Just so you know, this episode happened in my mind. All I’m trying to say is that with or without Oscar, you’ll have to pay if you buy something from a shop. Nothing has really changed, not even my working process and relationships,” he states.
