Monsoon is eagerly awaited by the people as it will bring relief from the brutal heat. However, the impacts of climate change have made these rains more perilous, often causing flooding. This is currently being experienced in various parts across India. Recently, Goa witnessed heavy rains and thunder, with lightning striking the Manohar International Airport (MIA) on May 22 around 5.15 pm. The lightning caused damage to the runway edge lights.
This led to the diversion of six flights. After almost two hours, the damaged lights were rectified to bring the airport operations to normalcy. No injuries have been reported. A video that shows the bolt of lightning hitting the airport is now going viral on social media.

Many Instagram users criticised the authorities for not preparing ahead of monsoons by cleaning up drains. Commenting on it, an Instagram user wrote, “Rains are normal in Kerala. There are streams and rivers to redirect the extra water. But with the negligence of the authorities, the roads and drains are not improved and we get this.”
Another person wrote, “Canals need to be cleaned at least 2 months before the monsoon starts. Everyone is on tour here. Who has time to look at these things.” Another person wrote, “There is no point crying at this point. we keep voting for the people who haven’t even heard of city planning, so cry in silence now.”
