This Pill Can Help Reduce Weight And Create A Feeling Of Fullness: Study
What makes it more interesting is that the capsule vibrates inside the stomach.

What if there was an easy way of losing weight and all one needed to do was pop a pill? Well, science has been advancing by leaps and bounds. From new technology to medicines, inventions are slowly taking over the market and creating a frenzy. One such invention is a pill which promises to reduce weight healthily and is being hailed as a game changer. What exactly does the pill do? Instead of opting for going under the knife or constantly changing diets, one can just take the help of a pill, which has been made by scientists. It is said to aid in weight reduction. The findings of this was published in Science Journal. This smart pill, Vibrating Ingestible BioElectronic Stimulator aka VIBES, is an ingestible capsule that will stimulate the feeling of fullness in the tummy and will lead individuals to eat less. This will boost weight management. What makes it more interesting is that the capsule vibrates inside the stomach. This causes the stretch receptors to stimulate that feeling of fullness.

The pill has been tested on pigs and has now shown great results. As per the findings, it was observed that after the pigs ingested the pill 30 minutes before their meals, they ate at least 40 percent less food. When the pill is popped, it vibrates inside the stomach and signals the hypothalamus to increase insulin and various hormones like C-peptide, Pyy, and GLP-1. These hormones aid in digesting the food and induce a feeling of fullness. At the same time, the levels of ghrelin hormone, which is responsible for promoting hunger, are reduced in the body.

If someone is looking forward to losing weight or controlling their appetite, then the pill should be taken at least 20 minutes before the meal. This could be a great invention as it minimises the side effects of pharmacological treatment. After popping the pill, an average 40 percent reduction in food consumption was observed. The study on the animals showed that after ingesting the pill, they showed slower weight gain.

Shriya Srinivasan, a former MIT graduate student and postdoc, now an assistant professor of Bioengineering at Harvard University conceived the concept of such a pill. Reportedly, the size of the pill will be of a normal vitamin pill and after doing its work, it will pass through stool. After getting launched in the market, its price will be between USD 1, which is around Rs 84.
