It goes without saying that Italians love their pasta dishes. Now a video that shows an “Italian dad” reacting to an unusual spaghetti dish is trending. The video documents the man growing displeased and even disgusted with the way a cook prepares spaghetti as a single-bowl recipe. The cook first puts spaghetti in a shallow bowl and then tops tomato puree, onions, herbs, and olive oil over it before adding water to the dish and mixing it. She cooks this mix till the dry spaghetti becomes soft. The cook then covers the pasta with a layer of cheese and bakes it. After the cheese is baked, the dish is served.

A popular Instagram account called We Are Italians posted this reaction video. In the comments, many people agreed with the man’s reaction, while others dismissed him as a purist. Many people even appreciated the dish for its simplicity.
Agreeing with the man’s disapproving reaction, an Instagram user wrote, “The main issue here is that they put together ingredients that need different cooking times. The end result is probably raw onion and soggy spaghetti. So it is basically a waste of good food.” Another person wrote, “Me either…gross! Those onions need to be cooked separately in a pan….cooking this way would take all the flavours of the onion away and make them quite hard….awful way of cooking pasta.”
Appreciating the dish, a person asserted, “Am I the only one thinking this looks absolutely OK? Spaghetti in a tomato sauce with cheese. Quick and easy to make as well.” Another defended the single dish recipe and wrote, “Tastes great. There’s more than one way to cook Italian food.”
A user pointed out, “Actually there is a southern Italian dish: SPAGHETTI ARRAGANATI which is done almost like that! Easy to judge when one doesn’t know the Italian culinary spectrum. Italians living in Italy are very judgmental …”
A Mexican fellow argued, “Dude who cares. I’m Mexican. Do I prefer people who prepare Mexican food as authentically as possible? Sure. Do I keep people from making food how they like and enjoying their lives? Hell no.”
Commonly spaghetti and other types of pasta dishes are boiled separately and the sauce is prepared separately. These ingredients are then mixed. People add grated cheese as a seasoning over their pasta. A few people even resort to making homemade pasta from scratch, called (pasta fresca), while many buy dried pasta (pasta secca) from the market.
