Sharing the rescue story, IAS officer Supriya Sahu said that the elephant was found sick and lying on the ground with her 3-month-old calf in a critical condition. The calf was wandering around her in confusion and distress. On finding the mother elephant, the team quickly consulted experts and veterinarians to create a rescue plan.

Later, they successfully lifted the mother elephant with the help of a crane and kept her supported by the crane for three days while she was being treated by vets. During the treatment, the calf joined the herd and other elephants in the nearby forest, visiting the mother at night. The constant support from the experts helped the mother elephant regain her strength, and after a few days of intensive treatment, she was finally released back into the wild.

IAS Supriya Sahu’s post on X reads, “From despair to hope and from struggle to triumph, this is the incredible story of a wild elephant mother’s fight for survival backed by a dedicated and professional team of foresters and vets from Coimbatore in the Tamil Nadu Forest Department who worked tirelessly to save her.”

“Thanks to the treatment, she gained enough strength and was released to freedom in the wild today. We are monitoring her to keep an eye on her well-being. Gratitude and kudos to the entire team for their efforts. Way to go team,” she added.
