With trains overflowing with people, Indians have resorted to creative solutions, known as “Desi Jugaad,” to secure a spot in the packed coaches. They’re going to great lengths, from scaling seats like Spiderman to reach the restroom, to fashioning makeshift hammocks between seats for a quick rest. This ingenuity was on display when a child was spotted peacefully sleeping on one such hammock on an Ajmer-Mysuru train.
A Reddit user @EnvironmentalYear791 shared a picture in the ‘Indian Railways’ subreddit, showing a bedsheet strung between six seats where a child was apparently sleeping. The post mentioned this happened in a 3AC coach of the Mysuru Special Fare Summer Special.

The picture quickly spread, sparking various reactions. Many remarked that such scenes were now par for the course, citing the regularity of such occurrences. Additionally, several observers noted that, contrary to expectations, the coach in the image did not appear to be excessively overcrowded. “it’s pretty much normal except the kid sleeping like that,” remarked one user. Another defended the scene, stating, “What’s wrong here? They booked a berth and are sleeping on it, nothing wrong. It doesn’t look like they are occupying anybody else’s seat. That kid should not be hanging like that though.”
Others chimed in, highlighting the prevalence of such occurrences on Indian trains, especially among large families travelling with limited seats. “Trust me bro this is not horrible in Indian trains, this actually very much normal with large family traveling together with less seats,” one comment read. Another simply noted, “Don’t look much crowded though, other than something hanging there.”

While the makeshift hammock seemed like a success story, an earlier incident added a touch of amusement. A man skillfully balanced his shoes atop a fan in the moving train, gearing up to climb the ingeniously crafted hammock attached along the passage using a cloth or bedsheet, its ends securely fastened to the upper berth rods. However, his quest for comfort was short-lived as the knot at one end unexpectedly opened, resulting in a hilariously failed attempt.
