The community has been making bamboo utensils for generations and they sell them on roadside stalls.

Unique crafts which are made directly from the resources provided by nature are rare to see these days, making them much more precious than we can imagine. But there is one community from Madhya Pradesh that is known to make beautiful utensils from peeled woods of bamboo.

The community, which resides in the region of Bundelkhand, Madhya Pradesh, is called the Ben community. They are popular for their skills to create various types of utensils with the wood of bamboo. As per reports, they have been creating these bamboo-made items for generations, and they then sell it on roadside stalls which are available for everyone to buy.

55-year-old Vimla Bansal, who is one of the makers and the sellers, has been running her stall for the past 20 years, which is located near the district hospital of the area. She shared the process that goes into making these beautiful and intricate items. According to her, they start by buying bamboo sticks, and after that, they spend a day peeling the wood. Then with the peeled material they create the items, which also takes around a day, revealed Vimla Bansal.

Speaking further she said that they specially make it for marriages, and they have been doing it for a long time. When she was asked about the profit she makes, she said that it could be sold for a range of prices; Rs 100, Rs 150, Rs 200 and at times, Rs 300. She shared that it also depended on the size of the product.

During the wedding season, the sales of these items soar, as many believe that bamboo is auspicious for a happy married life.
