Every once in a while, we stumble upon a video that makes us ponder life’s big questions: How? Why? What for? Since these viral videos have unfolded, one thing has become abundantly clear – the world is a carnival of characters. What exactly makes up this eclectic mix, we are not entirely certain, but we can all agree that some individuals have mastered the art of audacity like it’s an Olympic sport. Recently, the South China Morning Post reported an incident featuring a man who took the phrase ‘upgrading your flight’ to new heights.
Our story begins with a flight from Beijing to Chengdu, where a man decided he deserved not one but THREE first-class seats. What for, you ask? Well, he had paid for two, and his two-year-old son was making it rain tears in the economy. The solution? A free upgrade, obviously. After three hours of standoff, the police were called, and at 2 pm, they took the man off the plane.
In a video that went viral on Chinese social media sites, SCMP reports that this man found himself surrounded by flight attendants, security guards and an irate audience of fellow passengers. He yelled, bellowed and questioned aeroplane security – all while demanding an upgrade as if he is collecting frequent flyer entitlement points.
As the drama unfolds, a co-passenger attempts to enlighten the man about the airline’s policies. Unsurprisingly, this does not sit well with him, who redirects his fury toward the well-meaning informant. A security guard tries to play peacemaker, but the man remains an unyielding force of entitlement.
“What gives you the right to order me about?” he yelled, SCMP reported.
Amidst the chaos, a woman passenger has had enough. “You’ve wasted too much of our time, and we won’t tolerate it any longer,” she declared, speaking on behalf of the entire disgruntled plane-load of passengers who now face the inconvenience of rebooking their flights.
According to the SCMP report, the incident has sparked a virtual wildfire on Mainland social media with a chorus of voices piping up to critique both the passenger and the cabin crew.
