In India, there have been many cases of companies stealing money from their employee’s Provident Fund accounts. Recently, the Economic Offences Wing of Delhi Police has registered a case against SpiceJet MD Ajay Singh and three other top officials of the airline on cheating and criminal conspiracy charges in connection with provident fund (PF) dues. Now, to stop these malpractices, the EPFO (Employees Provident Fund Organisation) will initiate a significant step. As per the reports, in this step, the moment money is deposited in the EPF (Employee Provident Fund) account, its information will reach the employee in real time through SMS. If the employees do not receive an SMS on their registered mobile number regarding this service, the company is embezzling the PF money.
Currently, most of the employees are not aware whether the PF money is being deposited in their PF account or not. They can know their PF balance in many ways. Till now, there is no solution available to see the status of PF deposits in real-time. According to the reports, to overcome this anomaly, EPFO is making adjustments in its IT system like banks.
Many companies deduct the employee’s PF money from the salary but do not deposit it in their PF accounts. It causes immense loss to the employee. EPFO’s work also increases because it receives many complaints regarding this practice.
How to Check the PF Balance?
Currently, one can check the PF Balance in 4 ways. These are-
1. Get help from the website-
To check your PF balance online, click on the EPF passbook portal. Log in through the UAN (Universal Account Number) and password. After logging in, click on the download or view passbook options. After doing this, the passbook will open where you can check the balance.
2. Know the balance through the UMANG App-
Download the Umang App and click on EPFO. Now, click the option of Employee Centric Services. After this, visit the option View Passbook. Now, enter your UAN and password. You can check your PF balance by entering the OTP received on the registered mobile number.
3. Missed Call-
To get balance information through missed calls, a PF subscriber has to make a missed call on 011-22901406 from the registered mobile number. After some time, the subscriber will receive the account information on their mobile through SMS.
4. Via SMS-
To know the PF balance through this facility, send an SMS to 7738299899 from the mobile number registered with EPFO. To avail of this facility, you will have to type EPFO UAN LAN (language). For information in English, write ENG instead of LAN. In the case of Hindi, write HIN instead of LAN.
