A cab driver is winning the social media for her fun approach to otherwise basic rides. Linda Swan, a cabbie from Florida, USA, is gaining much praise for introducing karaoke to her passengers. She often posts videos of her passengers singing sessions. Recently she shared a video in which a group sits in her cab’s backseat. As soon as the passengers take their seats, Linda pushes a screen with the song’s lyrics on it towards them. The group reacts enthusiastically and immediately starts vibing to the song. This wholesome clip has gathered over 53,000 likes since it was posted on Instagram.
An Instagram user described this video as “BEST UBER EVERRRR". Many people expressed their desire to take a cab ride with Linda. Expressing this sentiment, an Instagram user wrote, “I need to come find you and get a ride!!!! This is so fun!!!" Another person wrote, “Make more videos! Don’t stop!!! Yessss!! Which town are you at??? Can we come find you???"
Just last week Linda posted another clip in which a young man is seen rapping with concentration as Linda drives away. Commenting on it, an Instagram user wrote, “Imagine a depressed person entering your cab and you lit up their mood, keep doing what you do #followed." Another person wrote, “I’m OBSESSED with this page you def got a fan from brazil now."
Linda Swan is not the only cab driver known for introducing karaoke. Tu Ching Liang, a 57-year-old taxi driver in central Taipei got global fame for offering discounts to passengers who sing well on his rides.
While in conversation with The Guardian, Liang said in 2021, “I’ve been driving a taxi for 27 years, giving money [as rewards for singing karaoke] for eight years, and filming videos for six years. I’ve filmed 10,000 videos. I was on TV shows from 10 different countries." Liang often posts videos of his passenger’s impromptu singing sessions on his YouTube account.
Liang said that he often gets massive tips from other passengers who like his unique offering. He told The Guardian that his dream is to have Ed Sheeran as a passenger. Talking about some difficulties of his job, he said, “Taiwanese love singing, so it’s normal there are many [taxis with karaoke]. But it’s hard to both film and sing, like what I do. And police can fine me for the speakers outside. That’s also difficult."
