Where are we heading when it comes to prioritizing entertainment over safety? That’s the question everyone seemed to be asking after a video emerged showing a couple on a scooter with a child standing on nothing but a footrest. While we’ve all seen kids squeezed between two riders on a scooter or bike before, this bizarre scene took the internet by storm, leaving everyone outraged at the couple’s apparent ‘stupidity.’
The video, which quickly went viral on ‘X,’ shows a man riding the scooter through traffic with a child (presumably his son) standing beside a woman who is seated behind him. The woman is holding the child with one hand as they navigate the busy road. The clip, captured by a rider behind them, reportedly took place in Whitefield, Bengaluru, prompting calls for action from the police.

The video sparked a wave of criticism, with many condemning the couple for their reckless behaviour. “This is totally ridiculous,” one person fumed. Another suggested, “Just a gentle kick on his mom and dad. Both should be jailed for a month without bail.” A third pointed out the obvious risks, saying, “Just one pothole can change this leisure ride ..even a slight imbalance.” And a fourth labelled it as “This is child endangerment.”
This incident just seems to be one example of a larger trend of people prioritising entertainment over safety. In another recent incident, a video went viral showing a man riding a motorcycle while playing a mobile game. The man was seen manipulating the bike with his legs, leading to comparisons with scenes from movies. Many criticised him for his reckless behaviour, with some calling him a game addict.

These incidents raise important questions about our priorities. In our quest for entertainment and thrill, are we forgetting about the safety of ourselves and others? In a world where the line between fun and danger seems to blur more each day, perhaps it’s time for a reality check.
