Apple Maps Error Causes Restaurant To Suffer Rs 6 Lakh Loss
An Australia-based restaurant owner suffered a loss of more than Rs 6 lakhs due to an Apple Maps malfunction.

Our lives have now drastically changed compared to earlier decades, thanks to technology and the internet. Technology and the internet have revolutionised numerous professions and become a global means of communication, making lives super easy for almost everyone across the world. In fact, there is nothing wrong with saying that, with the Internet’s growing role; people are heavily dependent on it. However, it also has its drawbacks when the same tech causes unnecessary obstacles.

Becoming a victim of the same technological glitch, an Australia-based restaurant owner suffered a loss of more than Rs 6 lakhs due to an Apple Maps malfunction. Chris Pyatt, owns a Thai restaurant called Pum’s Kitchen in Australia.

Sadly, the poor man noticed a ‘significant downturn’ in his business for a couple of months as Apple Maps displayed his restaurant as “permanently closed”, which ended up misleading his customers and costing him business in the months of November and December, reported ABC Australia.

The owner of the eatery said he had no idea when Apple Maps started to list its restaurant as “permanently closed.” In fact, he got to know about his own restaurant ‘getting closed’ according to Apple Maps after he began to receive queries about the same.

However, it has undoubtedly reduced the footfall at this restaurant and business. The restaurant owner further stated that he usually makes around A$12,000 (approximately $7,900) but noticed a major drop towards the end of November and December last year.

“But we have seen a sudden and drastic change in customer behaviour towards the end of November and all of December,” Chris Pyatt was cited as saying to ABC Australia.

Pyatt reportedly sprang to action over the issue and called an Apple customer support representative, but they were unable to ‘assist’ him. Later, Pyatt informed the customer representative that they couldn’t help him because he wasn’t an ‘Apple customer.’ According to the reports, the said restaurant owner was also asked to submit ‘online feedback’ on the matter, but nothing changed even after days of submission.

Fortunately, Pyatt was able to update the status in the end, but it took days to get reflected in the Apple Maps after media outlets reached the app to share their comment on the entire incident. However, until then, the restaurant owner has already suffered a huge loss for something he did not even do.
