Both the items put up for auction are signed by Roger Federer who retired from professional tennis a year ago.

Looking for an “inexpensive” way into the lucrative sports memorabilia market? One of Roger Federer’s match-worn outfits might be your ticket.

Not just any shirt and shorts, of course. An online auction that starts Wednesday is offering a Federer outfit from his winning run at the 2018 Australian Open.

That was his 20th and final Grand Slam title.

The Nike-made outfit is “expected to achieve up to $35,000,” Prestige Memorabilia said. Both items are signed by the Swiss great, who retired one year ago.

Bidding closes October 8.

A mint condition Mickey Mantle baseball card sold for $12.6 million in August 2022. That broke a record for the most expensive auctioned piece of sports memorabilia set a few months earlier, when the shirt worn by Diego Maradona when he scored the controversial “Hand of God” goal against England in the 1986 World Cup went for $9.3 million.

Meanwhile, Federer has given a hint he could captain Team Europe one day at Lave Cup.

“There’s something in me that’s Team Europe,” Federer said. “I’m happy if World wins, don’t get me wrong, but somehow, I can feel it deep inside — I want Europe to win.

“I like being in the tennis sphere. Maybe one day, I’ll be the captain of the team. There’s no plans as of now, but I think that could be quite nice.”

Bjorn Borg currently serves as Team Europe captain.

“Seeing the camaraderie, people from different countries coming together in a team, like me and Rafa or me and Novak, has been wonderful,” Federer said.

“Seeing the fun and the joy that Borg and McEnroe have brought to the teams but also how much they enjoy their roles has been great. I get very excited about Laver Cup doubles, because there are usually teams that we haven’t seen. I just like superstar combinations,” he added.
