Neelu Vaghela, renowned for her portrayal of the beloved character Bhabho in the hit series Diya Aur Baati Hum, has returned to the small screen with a new role in the daily soap Suhagan. While her entry as Shanti Shukla has injected fresh energy into the show, Neelu recently opened up about the bittersweet feeling of missing her iconic character from her previous venture.
In an interview with ETimes, Neelu expressed a profound sense of nostalgia and gratitude for her impactful role as Bhabho in the television serial Diya Aur Baati Hum. She shared, “I miss playing Bhabho daily. I feel Bhabho is a part of every household and every family. I thank the channel and Shashi Sumeet Mittal Productions they gave me such a strong character. It was my Television show and the character went on to become an iconic one. Wherever I go people address me as Bhabho. I feel blessed.”
Neelu’s portrayal of Bhabho left an indelible mark on Indian television, with audiences fondly remembering her stern character. Despite the challenges of transitioning from such a beloved role, Neelu expressed her gratitude for the unwavering support of her fans, who have embraced her in her new endeavours. “I have played the other characters also and I’m fortunate that people have loved that as well. It is very difficult for an artist to do justice to another character after playing such a popular role,” she added.
Speaking about her latest venture Suhagan, Neelu revealed her pleasant surprise at the warm reception she received from the cast and crew. She highlighted the heartwarming Girha Pravesh ceremony organised by the team, which filled her with immense joy. Neelu noted that unlike the typical abrupt character introductions seen in TV shows, her transition into Suhagan was remarkably smooth and left her feeling amazed by the warmth and hospitality of the team.
In Suhagan, Neelu embodies the role of Shanti Shukla, a gentle and soft-spoken woman with a sharp tongue, particularly when provoked by Indu (Played by Neelima Singh), Krishna’s mother. Shanti’s love for her only son Samay is boundless and she fiercely defends him and her dignity without compromise.
Neelu is a prominent figure in Rajasthani cinema, recognised for her notable contributions. She gained widespread acclaim for her portrayal of Santosh Arun Rathi, also known as Bhabho, in the popular soap opera Diya Aur Baati Hum and its sequel Tu Sooraj Main Saanjh, Piyaji on Star Plus. In addition to her acting career, Neelu runs her own production house, Aruneel Films, focusing on producing Rajasthani movies.
