The Last Us Part 2 Is Being Remastered For The PS5; Set To Launch On January 19, 2024
Sony is remastering The Last of Us Part 2. It will be available exclusively for the PS5 system and will be released on January 19, 2024.

The Last of Us Part 2 was released for the PlayStation 4 system in 2020. The game is only a little more than three years old at the moment, but it is already receiving a remastered definitive version for the PlayStation 5—The Last of Us Part II Remastered. This version will be available exclusively for the PS5 system and will be released on January 19, 2024.

Naughty Dog, the developer of the critically acclaimed franchise, states that the remastered version of the game features technological improvements, new modes, and new “behind-the-scenes” content. One of the new game modes is the ‘No Return’ mode, a roguelike survival mode designed to test players in random encounters. In this mode, players can choose between multiple characters, each with unique characteristics. As you progress, you can unlock new characters and rewards.

Furthermore, since The Last of Us 2 features an in-game guitar played by various characters, the remastered version also includes a guitar free-play mode. Players can strum across various instruments and use audio FX pedals to modulate performance. This mode allows you to play the guitar in different locations in the game using different characters.

Native PS5 Features Coming

Given that it is exclusive to the PS5 system, the remastered version benefits from native exclusive features such as the 4K fidelity mode, faster loading times thanks to the PS5 SSD, and DualSense controller integration.

And, as the definitive edition, the game includes ‘Lost Levels’ with playable sequences that were cut from the previous game, accompanied by developer commentary. This addition aims to provide players with better insight and perspective into the story.

If you own a PS4 copy of the game, you can upgrade to the PS5 definitive edition for just $10, Sony said, but it isn’t clear if the game would retail for the full $69.99 price tag, but should be revealed come December 5–when the game goes on pre-order.
