Samsung Electronics has unveiled the second smartphone powered by the company's own Tizen operating system. Tizen competes with Android, which powers Samsung's Galaxy range of smartphones.
The Samsung Z3 will go on sale in India on October 21 at Rs 8,490. The first Tizen phone, the Z1, was launched at a much lower price of Rs 5,700. Samsung says the Z3 offers a faster processor, a higher quality screen and improved cameras over the Z1. The 5-inch screen has a 1280x720 resolution.
Samsung, which is the world's top smartphone maker, is attempting to reduce its reliance on Google's Android operating system.
The Z3 is a 3G phone with a Spreadtrum 1.3GHz quad-core processor and 1 GB of RAM. The phone has 8 GB of internal storage and a microSD slot that supports card of up to 128 GB.
The rear camera is 8 megapixel while at the front is a 5 megapixel shooter. The phone has a 2,600 mAh battery.
Smartphones are not the only devices to be Tizen-powered. Samsung has also launched the Tizen-powered Gear S2 smartwatch and televisions.
