American action-cam maker GoPro has released two new mobile applications for editing video footage filmed with the firm's devices or with smartphone cameras. The apps are available to download now.

GoPro has unveiled Quik and Splice, two mobile applications for the firm's new creative software suite for mobile devices.

Quik (formerly Replay) is a video editing app for producing high-quality movies from videos stored on a mobile device with minimal effort. Quik can edit videos together virtually automatically in a matter of seconds, applying transitions, effects, filters and even a soundtrack (from music stored on the mobile device), synchronizing everything to the beat of the music.

Splice is a more powerful and advanced video editing tool, mirroring a desktop editing suite with its focus on manual functions. Splice can be used to add different types of transition, to cut sequences or to insert text. Filters can be added and the speed of videos can be changed. Music tracks can be cut and mixed together, and volume can be adjusted. Users can even narrate their videos.

Both Quik and Spice are also geared up for sharing finished videos online in a flash (Facebook, Instagram, etc.). Movies can also be saved to the smartphone or tablet for transfer to a computer.

Quik is available to download free from the App Store (iOS) and Google Play (Android). As yet, Splice (also free) is only available in the App Store.
