New Delhi: Google Play has introduced a new program for developers to design apps which are family-friendly. The 'Designed for Families' program is Google's aim at developing apps that are focused on families and children.
Developers will be required to carefully tailor their apps to provide high quality, age appropriate content meant for both education and entertainment.
A Slash Gear report notes that before any app could qualify for the category, it will be required to go through a review process and abide by the policies. The app must be rated ESRB Everyone, Everyone 10+, or equivalent.
Developers must accurately disclose the elements on the content rating questionnaire and if they are pushing out in-app ads, they must acknowledge that they are appropriate for children. They should also acknowledge information about location-sharing, transmission of info to third-party services, exchange of info within the app.
The program requirements and app policies also prohibit using of Google+ sign-in or Google Play game services as the login experience for the app.
Designed for Families is aimed to help families find relevant, age-appropriate content and make informed choices while downloading apps. This is Google's second measure at targeting the children category after YouTube Kids.
