Apple’s HomePod lineup, so far, has seen only a few updates since its original launch in 2017. We have seen the HomePod mini, and more recently, the second-generation HomePod. Notably, the lineup has not seen a major revamp, but now, it looks like Apple’s HomePod lineup could be in for a major overhaul.
According to a report by 9to5Mac, Apple could be working on multiple HomePod prototypes, and one of them could feature a touchscreen LCD panel on the speaker. The publication notes that leaked images of the alleged HomePod with the LCD screen are legitimate and are from a prototype.
iFuck thought had never made a HP with touchScreen before, but it is happened, it used to be my AprilFool’s joke pic.twitter.com/FUvS4HcYj7— Kosutami (@KosutamiSan) October 21, 2023
The images, leaked by an account named Kosutami, show a HomePod prototype device with a large LCD touchscreen on top of the device and notably feature a larger area on top compared to the outgoing second-generation model. Furthermore, the leaker notes that the design of the said HomePod resembles the second generation more than the first HomePod.
After verifying with sources, 9to5Mac states that the HomePod is real and is codenamed B720. “This prototype is actively being worked on by Apple, confirming that we’re talking about a new product and not something the company has experimented with in the past,” the publication reported.
It isn’t exactly clear when or if Apple will launch the HomePod, but it is reportedly in an “advanced-stage” prototype, which is why Apple could potentially launch it in the near future.
As for the interface, very little is clear, but per the report, it could feature a blurred animation based on the album art or song. Moreover, it may also allow users to reply to messages and answer phone calls.
