Mumbai: A mobile application which can remind patients to take medicines on time and also serve as their healthcare manager has been launched by a healthcare company.

The app, 'MyHealthSaverz', developed by HealthSaverz, is available on mobile phones operating on Android and iOS platforms, company's executive said.

MyHealthSaverz, which is free to download and use, can also be availed by non-smartphone users, who will get SMS reminders about medication after registration. Besides Hindi and English, the reminders will be available in 10 other languages.

"The need for a medicine reminder service was conceived out of a combination of personal experience, feedback from friends and family and customer discussions.

"As we thought about how to work on improving medicine adherence, we asked ourselves - `how can we use technology to make this more effective? This led us to MyHealthSaverz which uses mobile technology to improve health services," Ryan Albuquerque, co-founder of the company, told reporters here.

The full benefits of medicine in treating health conditions are often not realised because approximately 50 per cent of patients do not take their medications as prescribed, he said.

"In fact, the cost of non-adherence has been estimated at USD 100 billion to USD 300 billion annually, including costs from avoidable hospitalisations, nursing home admissions and premature deaths."

"We felt this app can be extremely relevant in India given that we have the second largest mobile phone base in the world and are expected to have the world's second largest smartphone base by 2016," Albuquerque added.
