The Malayalam actress Shakeela, also known for appearances in Tamil and Telugu films, defied the odds to redefine the concept of heroine in regional cinema. Primarily featuring in softcore pornographic films during the ’90s and 2000s, Shakeela has had a tough life and faced many obstacles in both her professional as well as personal life. Recently, in an interview, the actress opened up about her life while also sharing her views on marriage.
Reflecting on the reason behind stepping into the world of adult movies, Shakeela revealed that the financial situation of her family compelled her to be a part of the particular industry. Speaking further, she said that the ones for whom she took the bold decision are not with her anymore.
As Shakeela went on to reflect on life challenges, she expressed that there is no dearth of food and money but what disappoints her is the absence of a family. At the age of 23, Shakeela was a star and had achieved a milestone in terms of career. However, her only wish, now, is to live with her family. Moving ahead, she shared her relationship status and said that she was cheated by all the men whom she loved or dated. All her partners denied living with her mother which left her with no choice but to leave the people she was dating.
The Malayalam actress is unmarried. However, she adopted a transgender daughter a few years back. In 2021, she revealed the news to her fans saying that Milla, her daughter, is her strength in the toughest times adding that she will always support her daughter in whatever path she takes.
Known for disrupting unconventional definitions, Shakeela, in the same interview, also opened up about her acting career in Telugu cinema. Speaking about her stardom, she said that even the superstars used to postpone the release of their films at the time her films were announced.
Shakeela never shies away from opening her heart out and proudly shares her opinions. Earlier, as reported by The News Minute, she remarked that the Malayalam film industry once made a brand out of her but is scared to cast her now. During a session titled ‘The Myth of Morality’ at the seventh edition of the Kerala Literature Festival (KLF) in Kozhikode, the actress said, “Now they say that if they cast me, the film will be perceived differently.”
