Raiganj, West Bengal: The body of a presiding officer of a polling booth in the panchayat election, who was missing since the polls on May 14 was found besides railway tracks in West Bengal's North Dinajpur district, police said on Thursday.

The body of Raj Kumar Ray, 33, was found from Sonadangi area near the railway track on Wednesday, they said.

The cause of the death would be known only after the postmortem report was received, the police added. Ray was a teacher in a Madrassa high school in the district and was the presiding officer of a booth at Itahar for Monday's single phase panchayat poll. He went missing

after the polling hours.

Many polling officials blocked the Raiganj-Kaliaganj road on Thursday demanding a thorough probe into the death.

The blockade was lifted after the sub-divisional officer, T L Sherpa assured them that police was investigating the death.
