Lucknow: The weather is proving to be the biggest adversary of the political parties in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh. The plans of the various parties to cover as many areas as possible in a day's campaign are being spoiled by the chilly winter and fog.
Most of the elections in UP have been during the summers. That makes it easier for senior party leaders to campaign in most of the constituencies within the state. However, the above-than-normal winters have badly affected the ongoing campaign of most of the parties across the state.
It is for this reason that leaders like SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and BSP supremo Mayawati have not been able to tour in every constituency and have instead opted to address at least one rally in each district of UP. Most of the meetings of Mulayam's son and SP leader Akhilesh Yadav, who is currently holding a Kranti Rally across, begin two to three hours late.
It's the same story for Congress leader Rahul Gandhi who has toured the state more than any other leader. Yet Rahul is finding it difficult to make it to his scheduled rallies on time bacause of fog and cold.
The weather department says the next week is going to be no different and warned of little relief from the biting cold. The officials also said that heavy snow in Uttarakhand has added to the chill in UP, thereby making the poll process difficult.
