Telangana completes 1 year today, some key promises met, many challenges remain
Amidst political tussle between the two states, the biggest challenge for Andhra is to built a world class new capital and for Telangana is to develop backward state.

Hyderabad: On June 2, 2014, India's youngest state Telangana was carved out of Andhra Pradesh. On its first anniversary, the Telangana government has grandiose plans to celebrate the day, but Andhra Pradesh has announced a week long 'Nava Nirmana Deeksha' to remind people of the challenges ahead in rebuilding the state post-bifurcation. With many controversies surrounding the government, the biggest challenge for both states is to fulfill the expectations of the people.

Andhra Pradesh's Communication Advisor Parakala Prabhakar said, "Rallies will be about how to rebuilt state and tell people the things that were not given."

Both N Chandrababu Naidu government in Andhra Pradesh and K Chandrasekhar Rao government in Telangana had come to power on the back of high expectations. In the past year, some key poll promises were met but agrarian distress and farmer suicides still remain a big concern.

The opposition has a different story to tell and said that the government failed on every front. "They have failed in every respect in this one year. Education, employment, agriculture everything has collapsed," Congress leader Shabbir Ali said.

Both governments claim that their revamped industrial and IT policies have attracted crores in investments.

Telangana IT Minister KT Rama Rao said, "In one year, we have managed to get lots of investments."

But there have been a fair share of controversies too. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has been time and again criticised for his dictatorial behavior. He once infamously attacked the media and even decided to shift the Secretariat over Vastu concerns.

His rival Chandrababu Naidu isn't far behind in controversy either. His expenditure of crores of rupees on foreign trips and office renovations earned him flak.

Both governments also came in for criticism over alleged fake encounters in Nalgonda and Chittoor

Contentious issues of sharing assets like water and power between the two states still remain unsolved. Amidst political tussle between the two states, the biggest challenge for Andhra Pradesh is to built a world class new capital and for Telangana is to develop backward state.
