Chennai: The first day of the Tamil Nadu Assembly session convened today and the opposition DMK staged a walkout boycotting the Governor's address. MK Stalin, Working President of DMK, told reporters that the Governor was praising the govt. He added: "the Governor's speech failed to mention the increase in debt and revenue loss that Tamil Nadu is facing.”
The DMK also blamed the Governor for giving ample opportunity to the state govt despite disqualification of 18 MLAs. MK Stalin said DMK will decide on a no-confidence motion after the court's verdict on disqualified MLAs.
Meanwhile, TTV Dinakaran made his debut in the assembly as an Independent MLA. He received a rousing reception from 18 MLAs. He told reporters there was nothing substantial in Governor's address and reiterated that the AIADMK govt won’t continue for long.
"AIADMK govt does not have the majority. It can't continue. I have sleeper cells and those will be activated during the floor test. There is nothing substantial in the Governor's speech." He also raised the ongoing transport unions’ protest and said their demands should be addressed.
Governor in his speech thanked the Centre for releasing Rs 133 cr for relief and rehabilitation measures in the aftermath of Cyclone Ockhi. He added that the state government will continue its efforts till the last missing fisherman is found.
The assembly session will conclude on Friday and the remaining session is expected to have heated debate over issues including bus strike and cyclone Ockhi.
