States' distrust with Centre unfortunate: Chidambaram
He said that states cannot fight Naxals, militancy without the central forces.

New Delhi: Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Tuesday said that it's unfortunate that some states harbour distrust with the central government on various issues.

"We will resolve differences between some states and the central government. It's regrettable that after 5 such conferences, some states harbour distrust with the central government," he told reporters.

"If the states are willing to accept more responsibility then we can step back. If the states can handle Naxal related issues, we can step back. But the states do not have the number and quality of security and the weapons," he added.

He said the the cenral government is ready to procure equipments for the states. "Any state wanting to procure equipments that we are procuring, we are willing to procure, most chief ministers recognised it."

On the outcome of the CMs meeting, he said, "All states recognised that we are together in tackling internal security. There is no way in which states can fight Naxalism, Militancy, terrorism without the central forces. Same way, Centre cannot do it without the states. Every state asked for more money."
