Ahmedabad: Former Gujarat CID chief GC Raigar, who retired in 2007 and had headed the investigation in the Sohrabuddin Shaikh fake encounter case, and Geeta Johri, the then SIT chief, are now on the defensive.
Raigar denied that he was under any political pressure while carrying out the investigations. He said that investigating office VL Solanki never sought permission to interrogate Tulsi Prajapati and no letter was sent by Johri asking permission for it.
"I can say that no such permission was sought and therefore there was no question of denial," he said.
"This is not true. Nobody told us not to interrogate him. I am sure about this," he replied when asked if Amit Shah tried to ensure that Tulsi Prajapati was not questioned in the encounter case by the CID and therefore this file was not allowed to be cleared by the Home Ministry.
Johri told CNN-IBN that she had carried out the investigation in Sohrabuddin case to the best of her abilities.
"I have done my best to investigate Sohrabuddin case. It's the state CID that put 13 people behind bar not CBI. CBI added only two names in the chargesheet of state SIT. Amit Shah's name never came in during the investigations of state CID and Supreme Court stayed my investigations for one year. I always tried to give correct picture before CBI and in future also if they need me I am available," said Johri.
