Ahmedabad: Former Gujarat minister Amit Shah is being questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inside Sabarmati Jail for the second day on Thursday in connection with the fake encounter killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh. The agency has asked the Supreme Court for three more months to complete the investigation into the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case, after Shah's interrogation on Wednesday yielded no results.
CBI has also summoned IPS officer Geeta Johri and former Gujarat DGP PC Pandey for questioning. It was because of Johri's investigation that the the Gujarat CID arrested IPS officers DG Vanzara, Rajkumar Pandian and Dinesh MN. While Johri has been asked to appear before the CBI by August 10, Pandey has been given the time till August 11.
Geeta, the first woman IPS officer of Gujarat, has been asked to report by August 10 for questioning in connection with the 2005 killing of Sohrabuddin. She was a part of the Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by RK Raghavan that investigated the case.
There have been allegations that some police officials of Gujarat had tried to influence the investigation into the incident. This is for the first time Pandey has been called for questioning by CBI. It had earlier called other IPS officers, including GC Raigar and OP Mathur, for questioning in Sohrabuddin case.
The Supreme Court handed over the fake encounter case to CBI in January this year. The investigating agency has so far arrested former minister of state for Home Amit Shah, IPS officer Abhay Chudasama and owners of Arham Farm Rajendra Jirawala in the case. Sohrabuddin's wife Kausar Bi was kept at Ahrham Farm before she was also killed. Her body was never found.
