BJP's Jai Prakash Nishad has won the Rudrapur seat (in Deoria district), constituency No. 336 of Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly, with 77754 votes.
The main candidates from Rudrapur were Chandrika Nishad (BSP), Jai Prakash Nishad (BJP), Akhilesh Pratap Singh (Congress) and Prabha Shankar Tripathi (Independent).
The Congress defeated the Samajwadi Party by 7,427 votes to win this constituency in the last assembly elections held in 2012. Akhilesh Pratap Singh, the winning candidate from Congress, got 40,783 votes. The nearest contender was Mukti Nath Yadav of Samajwadi Party who got 33,356 votes. The voter turnout was a good 51.73 %.
Elections to 403 seats of Uttar Pradesh were held over 7 phases from February 4 to March 8.
Exit polls had predicted the BJP emerging first in Uttar Pradesh with the Samajwadi Party- Congress alliance emerging second and Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party emerging a distant third.
