V Narayanasamy said the Centre had released grants totalling Rs 2781 crore to Puducherry outside the Union Territory budget.

Puducherry: Union Minister of State in PMO V Narayanasamy on Sunday alleged that the Rangasamy led AINRC government in Puducherry had "failed to collect taxes due from dealers in petrol and diesel and power consumers" leading to financial crisis in the union territory.

"Amusingly enough Rangasamy is trying to blame the Centre as not extending financial support to Puducherry when his government has been showing failure to collect the dues", Narayanasamy said.

He said the Centre had released grants totalling Rs 2781 crore to Puducherry outside the Union Territory budget. "This is more than what was sanctioned to Puducherry during the previous Congress regime here", he said.

Although the Chief Minister had agreed before the Planning Commission that as much as Rs 190 crores would be collected every month under additional resource mobilization from local sources the territorial government was collecting only Rs 130 crore.

There had been dues from dealers in petrol and diesel to the tune of Rs 115 crore and in the power sector also as much as Rs 150 crore remained outstanding, he said, alleging the current financial crisis has been caused by the government due its own failure and there is no point in blaming the Centre as not releasing funds", he said.

Rangasamy should have held discussions with Karnataka Chief Minister focusing the requirements of Karaikal farmers in Cauvery river system as the region is at the tail end of the river basin, he said.
