Proud that I have been able to bring Sonia, Rahul to court; victory of democracy: Subramanian Swamy

New Delhi: Striking a defiant note, senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy said he is proud that he was able to bring Congress leaders Sonia and Rahul Gandhi to the court and it is a victory of the democracy.

Rejecting opposition's claims that BJP pressured him in the National Herald case, Swamy said, "No one in BJP pressured me or approached me in the case. There were attempts to slow down the official process but no one dared to ask me to do anything. I did not have any support from BJP. I do not need any support from anyone."

"They earlier called me Narendra Modi's 'chamcha', now they have elevated me and called me his mask," he said.

Patiala House Court on Saturday granted bail to Congress President Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul in the National Herald case.

Amidst media hype and hoopla and tight security, Sonia and Rahul and three other accused Motilal Vora, Oscar Fernandes and Suman Dubey appeared before Metropolitan Magistrate Lovleen in the Patiala House courts complex in the heart of the capital in pursuance of the summons issued to them on December 8.

The case is based on a private criminal complaint lodged by Swamy against them of cheating, conspiracy and criminal breach of trust.
