Opposition, Civil Organisations Oppose Telangana Govt's Move to Shift Dharna Chowk

Hyderabad: The opposition parties and civil organisations are up against Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao once again. This time over TRS government's attempt to gag and suppress the voices of dissent.

In a shocking move, the Telangana chief minister has decided to shift Dharna Chowk, which has been venue of thousands of protests for several years, out of Hyderabad citing law and order issues. As an alternate, four locations at four different corners of the city are given as option.

The State BJP has decided to stage symbolic protest against the autocratic attitude of the TRS Government on March 16th. The opposition has alleged Chief Minister of trying to stiffle voices that raise questions against ruling government and curtailing the constitutional right of the people to protest. The BJP MLAs will also carry out march from Indira park to Assembly demanding the Government to withdraw its orders.

An all party delegation including members of civil organisations have also decided to meet the Governor to submit a memorandum against shifting of Dharna chowk from Indira Park. Calling KCR a dictator, TPCC Chief Uttam Kumar Reddy said ,"We will oppose any move of the government to shift Dharna Chowk ".

An online petition has already been started on Change.org against the decision. The petition addressed to K Chandrashekhar Rao says, " I would like to remind you that Dharnas organised at Dharna Chowk are by activists and leaders like you, who had helped in achieving Telangana state. It is against the spirit of constitution to suppress the voices questioning government. Any democratically elected government should respect people's right to agitate lawfully. Kindly reconsider your decision."

Earlier this year, after permission was denied to TJAC, who wanted to carry out protest at Dharna Chowk highlighting the rising problem of unemployment of youth in state, resulted in massive outrage.

What's your reaction?
