New Delhi: Nagaland Governor Vakkom Purushothaman has resigned after he was transferred from Mizoram on Sunday. Purushothaman has claimed that he was not consulted regarding his transfer as the Governor of Mizoram to Nagaland.

"The transfer was made without consulting me," he said. Purushothaman said he would convey his decision to resign to the Centre. Purushothaman, a veteran Congress leader and former Kerala minister, said he would get actively involved with party politics but not in electoral politics.

In a reshuffle of governors effected by the Centre on July 6, Gujarat Governor Kamala Beniwal was transferred to Mizoram while Purushothaman was transferred and appointed as Governor of Nagaland.

He was also given additional charge of the office of Governor of Tripura. He was sworn-in as the Mizoram Governor on September 2, 2011.

He is the sixth governor to resign after the Narendra Modi government took charge at the Centre.
