Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh is witnessing another son-rise as Mahanaryaman Scindia, representing one of the most influential political families of Madhya Pradesh - the Scindias - is busy enhancing his public relations skills in Gwalior-Chambal region, a stronghold his family has ruled for ages.
Grandson of late union minister Madhavrao Scindia and son of Congress Campaign Committee in charge Jyotiraditya Scindia, Mahanaryaman is a regular fixture these days in various public events in Gwalior, Shivpuri and other districts.
At the time when Jyotiraditya Scindia is taking whirlwind tours across the state, Mahanaryaman is helping his father by reaching out to places where the latter is not able to visit due to shortage of time.
Addressing his first public rally in Shivpuri, the youngest Scindia family member without naming the BJP alleged that politics in Madhya Pradesh these days is dominated by lies and we have to change it.
Given his royal lineage and youthful persona, people are more than eager to meet him wherever he goes.
Clad in kurta-payjama and a gamchha draped around his neck, and with fine oratorical skills, Mahanaryaman presents a reflection of his father in public meetings.
Mahanaaryaman, who completed his schooling from The Doon School, Dehradun, is now pursuing graduation in Management from US. At present, he is using his summer break to get some first-hand experience of politics in Madhya Pradesh.
“His down-to-earth approach, contrary to his royal lineage makes him apple of public’s eyes wherever he goes,” a Gwalior native who is close to the Scindias for decades told News18.
He said the young member from Scindia clan is getting used to ground realities and gaining acquaintance with the party workers so he could help out his father when the Assembly elections are around later this year.
It’s not the first time Mahanaryaman is out in the field handling political legacy of his family as in 2014 as well he had helped his father with election management during Lok Sabha polls.
Scindias have always been politically relevant to both BJP and the Congress since decades.
As political analysts believe the family casts its influence on 34 Assembly seats in Gwalior-Chambal.
While family women, including Vijaya Raje Scindia, the founder member of BJP, her daughters –Vasundhara Raje (Rajasthan CM) and Yashodhara Raje (MP minister) have sided with the BJP, late Madhav Rao and Jyotiraditya joined hands with Congress.
Madhav Rao though had initially fought election with Jan Sangh support form Gwalior, but later revolted against his mother to join Congress in 1979 and also won election on Congress ticket from Gwalior.
However, despite stiff internal familial discord, Scindias have never gone against each other in the poll fray.
Besides Mahanaryaman, his grandmother, Madhavi Raje, and mother, Priyadarshini Raje Scindia, also lend helping hand to Jyotiraditya Scindia during elections.
A small evidence of Mahanaryaman's popularity can be gauged from his Facebook page, which already has over 22,000 followers.
The young generation from political families is taking to the political arena in MP.
Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh’s son Jaivardhan is already an MLA from Raghogarh, while president Kamal Nath’s son Nakul had already been active in his father’s parliamentary seat Chhindwara for years, while Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s elder son Kartikeya had addressed public meetings in the past especially the one he addressed during by-polls in Shivpuri recently.
