New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday passed on the blame for the woes of sanitation workers in Delhi to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Narendra Modi government at Centre.
Terming the BJP-governed MCD as one of the most corrupt organisations, the Aam Aadmi Party demanded a probe into the role of the party over the issue of non clearance of salary due of sanitation workers. Addressing a press conference in the national capital, AAP leader Dilip Pandey alleged that the funds meant for workers’ salaries were used for other purposes.
Pointing that Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had allocated a sum of Rs 2000 crore for the MCD, the Aam Aadmi Party alleged that not even a single rupee had reached the beneficiaries yet.
Speaking during the press conference, senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh accused the BJP of trying to “convert Delhi into a garbage dump”. He further said that the MCD was demanding more money from the state government despite already getting some funds.
Referring to instances of alleged corruption in Delhi’s civic bodies, Singh said that the MCD had as many as 22,000 ghost employees. “People of Delhi are being punished because they voted for Aam Aadmi Party,” said the AAP leader, adding that “Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh and LG Najeeb Jung are punishing people of Delhi”.
Earlier on Friday, the Delhi High Court on Friday asked the Arvind Kejriwal government to release the pending salaries of MCD workers by June 15.
