Mayawati slams Congress on quota, scams
Mayawati blamed the Central Government for not allocating funds for developmental works in the state.

New Delhi: BSP supremo and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Wednesday slammed Congress for not doing enough to eradicate poverty from the state. The UP CM also criticised the UPA government for playing politics on the quota issue and NRHM scam.

"Longest ruling party in UP has been Congress but has not done much for the state. Unemployment and poverty went on rise under Congress rule. 40 years of Congress in Uttar Pradesh didn't do anything to eradicate poverty. People migrated to other states where they are humiliated," she said while addressing an election rally in Sitapur.

Commencing her poll campaign on Wednesday, she blamed the central government for not allocating funds for the developmental works in the state. "Central government is not sending funds allotted to the state for various schemes. The government has a anti-Dalit agenda. BSP has done a lot of work for the development of Dalits and other minorities including Muslims," she said.

On the quota issue, she said that the Congress has done a great harm and tried to divide and rule by introducing minority sub reservation in OBC quota.

"Congress is making empty promises on reservation. Opposition parties accuse us of corruption and criminalisation but it is these parties that bought these ills to the state. 62 scams unearthed by the UPA. Most black money abroad belongs to opposition parties," she said.

Taking a dig on the UPA government on the NRHM sam, she said, "The central agencies have been quicker in investigating NRHM scam during the election time than investigating scams like 2G and CWG. Congress has misused the CBI. In NRHM, I suspended 2 ministers and handed over investigations to CAG and CBI knowing fully well they report to the UPA government."

"The state government is not involved with NRHM directly. If there were anomalies, why did the center not point it out to us. If UP officials are to blame so are the officers and ministers of the central government," she added.

The UP Chief Minister praised her government's rule, saying, "We have assured that every member in the party has a clean image and is devoted to work for the people. BSP will ensure 24/7 electricity in the state."

On the proposal to divide the state, she said, "We have initiated the move to divide the state but the center has not done their Constitutional duty of looking into the matter. UPA's wrong economic policies has resulted in price rise which has become a headache for 'aam admi'."

"My government has established rule of law in the state. That is why we were able to maintain communal harmony during Babri Masjid judgement," she said.
