Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday blamed a section of doctors for diagnosing heart attack as dengue without proper verification and issuing death certificates.

"Writing of heart attack as dengue, is not done. Dengue must be confirmed before issuing death certificates," Banerjee who is also the health minister, told a press conference at Writers' Buildings.

The Chief Minister urged the doctors to follow proper testing protocol and verification before issuing death certificates. She also advised the youth to refrain from controlled diets as it might lead to lowering of immunity and fall prey to diseases like dengue.

Keeping government clinics open beyond the official time and availability of medical kits for faster detection of dengue were some of the steps taken by the state government to tackle the outbreak of the disease, which has claimed three lives in the state this season, the chief minister said.

Sophisticated medical kits have been brought for faster detection of dengue, Banerjee said. "We can't allow the situation to turn serious," the CM said, adding that there was no cause for panic.
