Live: Protesters leave metro stations but agitation continues
Following the protests in the metro stations, Subash Nagar and Tilak Nagar stations have been closed indefinitely. Traffic on the Blue Line has been hit.

New Delhi: 3.07 pm: The protesters have dispersed. They will now gather at Sonia Gandhi's residence at 11 am on Thursday.

3.05 pm: The Blue Line of Delhi Metro is operational. But, commuters are still not allowed entry and exit from Subash Nagar and Tilak Nagar metro stations. Trains are not stopping at these two stations as a precautionary measure.

3.03 pm: Sajjan Kumar issue is being politicised. If some people are not satisfied with the court verdict, they always have the option to appeal in a higher court, says Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

2.38 pm: "We appeal to Sikhs all over the world to join us in the protests," says one of the protesters. "Protests will continue," he added.

2.34 pm: The two metro stations have been cleared but a few of them are still protesting outside the stations, says CISF PRO Hemender Singh.

2.29 pm: The two metro stations have been cleared. No more protesters inside the stations, says CISF. "Situation under control. Both stations are closed. Protesters are now outside the stations. The CISF has deployed additional personnel," he said.

"Protesters came in around 12.15 pm. But when they were requested to leave, they left peacefully. No damage caused to metro property," added Singh.

2.25 pm: Will gather outside Sonia Gandhi's residence at 11 am on Thursday to protest, say protesters.

2.05 pm: Anger of protesters is justified, says Akali Dal MP Naresh Gujral. "Hope that the Supreme Court will wake up and call for an SIT, just like it did in Gujarat," he said.

"Don't want to politicise the issue. It's a question of human rights. This is no time to play politics," he added.

1.30 pm: "Tilak Nagar, Subhash Nagar metro stations shut. Will be opened once the situation calms down," says the DMRC.

12.30 pm: Sikh protesters storm Subash Nagar metro station and block trains.

Angry over the acquittal of Congress leader Sajjan Kumar in one of the cases of 1984 anti-Sikh riots on Tuesday, a number of people on Wednesday entered a metro station in west Delhi and blocked a metro train from leaving the station.

Shouting slogans and carrying placards like 'Hang 1984 Culprits' and 'Give us Justice', protesters also marched to the Tilak Nagar Police Station in west Delhi and blocked traffic in the area. Following the protests, Subash Nagar and Tilak Nagar metro stations were closed indefinitely. Metro services on the Blue Line connecting Noida to Dwarka and Vaishali to Dwarka have been disrupted.

"After 30 years we are yet to get justice. Government should feel ashamed. We will never forget and forgive who allowed culprits get scot free. We want justice," said one of the protesters.

Kumar, a former Congress MP, was acquitted by a court in Delhi on Tuesday in one of the cases of 1984 anti-Sikh riots. On Tuesday, a large number of people had gathered at the court complex and one of them had even thrown a shoe at the judge after the pronouncement of the verdict.

Protests were also witnessed in Jammu in the morning. Sikh groups in Jammu blocked the Jammu-Kashmir Highway. Activists of several Sikh organisations led by Harjeet Singh sat on a dharna and took out demonstrations at Digiana on the outskirts of the city.

Raising anti-government slogans, the protesters termed the acquittal of the Congress leader as an "injustice" to the Sikh community in the country.
