Left parties to jointly contest Mandi LS seat in HP
CPM and CPI will field a joint candidate in Himachal's Mandi LS constituency.

Shimla: Left parties, CPM and CPI, on Saturday announced that they would field a joint candidate in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi Lok Sabha constituency, where five-time Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh is the Congress nominee.

Onkar Shad will be the joint candidate of the two parties for Mandi seat in the coming Lok Sabha polls, Tikendra Singh Panwar, CPI(M) state committee member, said here.

Forty-year-old Shad hailing from Anni village of Kullu district is a former Students Federation of India activist and faces a tough battle with Congress fielding veteran leader and five-time CM Virbhadra Singh from the seat.

HP has four Lok Sabha seats -- Shimla (reserved), Mandi, Kangra and Hamirpur. However, the Left parties have only a marginal presence in the hill state.

Panwar said the Left leaders would make people aware of the "faulty" policies of both Congress and the BJP.
