Ahmedabad: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal is all set to address his first public meeting in Gujarat at Bapu Nagar in Ahmedabad on Saturday.
The AAP leader who left for Jaipur on Friday will hold several public meetings in Gujarat today. Several AAP members had alleged that BJP had indulged in 'rumour mongering' about Kejriwal's visit to Jaipur. The party issued a press release saying, "Attempts have been made by the BJP to project in a section of the media that Kejriwal has left Gujarat."
This comes a day after the AAP leader had expressed his intent to meet BJP prime ministerial candidate and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, but was forced to take the exit route after his convoy was stopped by the Gandhinagar Police on its way.
The AAP had accused the Modi government of playing politics and said the Gujarat CM did not have any answers to Kejriwal's questions. The AAP leader had posed 16 questions on corruption and governance to the Gujarat Chief Minister and had said that he will head to his residence to get the answers. "I want to ask Modi about his so called development record," Kejriwal said.
Despite an all out attack by Kejriwal, the Gujarat strongman's strategy so far has been to ignore him completely. But the state BJP unit retaliated saying the AAP lacked respect and courtesy for leaders.
"To meet someone like Modi, you need an appointment. The AAP clearly has not shown the courtesy," BJP spokesperson Jay Narayan Vyas had said.
Kejriwal is on a four-day visit to Gujarat, during which he met fishermen, salt-pan workers, farmers and people affected by the Mundra Special Economic Zone. Political experts say this is a clever move by AAP to turn disillusionment with the Modi government into votes for the party.
