J&K Assembly Speaker revokes suspension of NC legislators after party announced boycott of session
Hitting out at the state government for suspending only NC members, he said that the government was trying to "divide the ranks of a united opposition".

Facing protest by the National Conference leaders, Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Speaker Kavinder Gupta has revoked the suspension of four party legislators. The suspension of the members had prompted the NC leaders to boycott the ongoing session of the Assembly.

Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah has claimed that his party is being targeted and had maintained that the party leaders will not attend the Assembly till the suspension is revoked.

Hitting out at the Peoples Democratic Party-Bharatiya Janata Party government in the state for suspending only NC members in the state legislature, he said that the government was trying to "divide the ranks of a united opposition".

"By suspending only @JKNC_ members in both houses the Govt has betrayed it's true intentions - to divide the ranks of a united opposition," Omar wrote on Twitter.

Omar, the NC working president, also claimed that Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had confessed to his colleagues his "unease at seeing the opposition close ranks" over the last two days of the current season of the legislature.

"Mufti Syed confessed his unease to his colleagues at seeing the opposition close ranks over the last two days, especially today over (Article) 35A," he said. Referring to the suspension of two members from NC in the Legislative Council, Omar said it was part of the "dictatorial policies" of the coalition.

Members of NC and Congress created uproar in both houses of the legislature for the second consecutive day on Tuesday demanding adjournment of question hour to discuss issues like Article 35A and ration distribution.

The members from the two parties jumped into the well of both the houses and raised slogans against the government, following which the Speaker suspended two NC MLAs - Altaf Wani and Abdul Majeed Larmi - for rest of the session. Similar action was taken in the upper house by the chairman by suspending two NC MLCs - Ali Mohammad Dar and Showkat Ganai - for the rest of the session.
